1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

In a large bowl, with an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, 3 to 4 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, beating well. With mixer on low speed, add half of dry ingredients, followed by milk-vanilla mixture, then remaining dry ingredients.

Add batter in muffin cups. Bake cupcake for 20 to 25 minutes. You can use a toothpick to place in the center, if the toothpick comes out clean, the cupcakes are done.

How to Decorate:

Frost each cupcake, then press in a cookie head and 2 cookies for the wings.
Press in a row or two of candy corn for the tail feathers.
To make an eye, add a small dot of white icing to the head, then add a dot of black decorators' gel for a pupil.
For a beak, cut the white tip from a piece of candy corn and press it in place.
To make the wattle, cut a 1-inch square of fruit leather. Roll it into a tube and stick it in place over the beak.

How to help your child find his or her style!

Kids being accepted by their peers is hugely important in building their self-confidence when they’re young.  They want to fit in, and their clothes play a vital part in that. There are a few things to consider when helping your children pick out their own wardrobe. The first of which is going to be the price. This is one thing that doesn’t need to be discussed with your child, but it does need forethought before going to the store.

The main thing you want to keep in mind is what type of clothing looks best on your child. Meaning, which style helps bring out their natural personality. You don’t want to buy plaid themed clothing for instance if they’ve never worn it before. Additionally, plaid clothing is associated with being studious so, even though learning is at the forefront of schooling if your child isn’t overly involved with the studious crowd this type of clothing would not be an acceptable style fit. You want your child to look like the others they associate with as this will help with their confidence at being able to fit in with others.

Bright colors are usually associated with and look better on, people who have outgoing personalities. If your child is naturally quiet and is comfortable with that trait, don’t try to get him or her out of that shell by trying something new. If the child asks however, by all means see how brighter colors will look on them and how they feel about it. Maybe your child wants to branch out by trying to be a different type of person, so the clothes you both choose should help in that “transition” by helping to give them the confidence to do so.

Whether your children tell you or not, they take their clothes terribly seriously. Especially when your child starts entering their teenage years and acceptance is everything. All of the different styles and their reasons aside, you want the clothes to fit well and look like a lot of attention was paid to detail. It may not look “professional”, but if your child starts with this habit early it will lead to more professional looking clothing in the future.

Are you having trouble getting out of the house in the morning with the kids?

For some of us leaving the house to take the kids to school can be very difficult. Some kids cry, they move very slowly, they refuse to get dressed, mornings can be the worst time. If you are shaking your head saying, “this is so me,” Here are some ideas to help you get your day started smoothly. We hope it works for you!

1. The earlier bed time the better. If waking them up is hard to do, this means they are NOT getting enough sleep (according to Kidshealth.org). School aged children should sleep on average of 10-12hrs per night.

2. Parents need sleep too! So mom and dad…get some sleep. If you are sleep deprived it will be even harder in the mornings with the kids.

3. Night time routine is essential for the mornings. So make sure backpacks, lunches and whatever you need for the morning is prepared the night before.

4. Give yourself extra time in the morning before the kids wake up. Preferably an hour earlier, have your coffee/tea, breakfast and be ready before you have to deal with any sort of emotional ups or downs.

5. Helping them get dressed and spending time with them in the morning helps with morning routines.

6. Allow them to have some choices in the mornings, like when to use the bathroom. Some kids go as soon as they wake, some go after breakfast.

7. Lastly, working together parents and children really help make the morning stress a little easier.
