Whiter Clothes, No Chlorine Bleach!

My dilemma lately has been trying to get my kids whites a little whiter without bleach. I tried soaking for a few hours in hot water before starting the wash. After a few washes of no change I went back to bleaching. I found that bleaching has worn out the threads in their whites and find myself buying new whites every few months. While shopping at my local grocery store, I remembered my mom used “Baking soda” to wash our clothes as kids. As I googled baking soda, I found it had many uses to clean and keep clothes fresh. Well, I tried it today and it worked! It whitened without bleaching, while leaving the clothes soft! Lots of power in a little box, definitely a keeper!

Here are the benefits of using baking soda on clothes:
Baking soda has mild alkali qualities-not harsh on clothes
Dirt and grease dissolves very easily and softens clothing
If you have hard water, your clothes will be cleaned more effectively while preventing stain build-up

Add ½ cup baking soda with your detergent to freshen your laundry and help liquid detergents work harder. Use baking soda instead of fabric softener. Add 1/2 cup at the rinse cycle. Add 1/2 cup baking soda (only 1/4 cup for front-loading machines) with the usual amount of bleach to increase whitening power. (If you want to use bleach)
